Social Events & Outings

In addition to our ongoing groups, we organize one-time social activities such as meals, salons, coffees, outings, and community volunteering. These events include an annual year-end party, monthly "Blooming Hours," our restaurant outings for small groups called "Dining in the Neighborhood," and informal "salons" and “klatches” at which members share knowledge and experience, with time for discussion.

Blooming Hours

Blooming Hours are our answer to the traditional happy hour. Organized at a local restaurant or outdoors when weather permits, these social events bring members together over a drink or a meal. New members are always welcome.

Dining in the Neighborhood

Dining in the Neighborhood is our version of grabbing dinner or brunch with a friend. These meals bring out small groups of members who get together to share a good bite and a story or two.

Salons & Klatches

Salons are held from time to time in a member’s living room as a slightly more formal and convivial gathering around a topic presented by a  speaker who is usually a neighbor. Coffee Talk, familiarly known as our klatches, is meant to be spontaneous daytime meet-ups so that members can discuss topics of interest such as a recent film, a current event or a cultural offering.  We are looking for leaders with ideas to bring this offering back.

Volunteering

BAiP offers multiple opportunities to engage with neighborhood partners and community groups.  Ongoing and one-time volunteer possibilities exist for our members. Please email us for more information.  BAiP also needs internal volunteers.

Show+Go Outings

We organize occasional "Show+Go" outings for small groups to visit museums, attend concerts or lectures.  Members often come to us with an idea and then lead the outing where whoever shows goes.

A Show+Go outing can be as local as a reading in Harlem or as far-flung as a baseball game on Staten Island.  Designed for a variety of interests, this series permits members with common interests to find each other.  These offerings are member driven.  If you have a  idea for an outing and will show up to welcome those who want to join in, let us know!
There are no RSVPs for these "meet ups."  Just turn out!

Ongoing Groups

We have 70 different ongoing groups appealing to almost any interest.  From knitting to soup making, and from gentle walking to juggling, these groups meet either weekly or monthly.  A dozen or more book groups all with a different theme are on offer, as are a variety of art groups.  Our photography, collage and soup groups even have their own gallery online.
